Endoscopic techniques permit smaller incisions which means less muscle damage and less irritation to the nerve root. The resulting loss in muscle strength from endoscopic techniques is also considerably less when compared with a microsurgical approach, which requires a larger incision. This is an important factor as the strength of the extending lumbar and cervical muscles is the main contributor to natural stabilisation in the patient and is therefore crucial to the prevention of further degeneration.
The EASYGO!® II and SPINETIP systems from KARL STORZ Endoscopy combine a high-resolution endoscope with irrigation and working channels to make it possible to perform endoscopic interventions through a single port under visual control.
