icotec VADER® Pedicle System

icotec, a Swiss medical device company focusing on the development of Carbon/PEEK implants, achieved a breakthrough with the world’s first implantation of Carbon/PEEK pedicle screws. Since then more than 700 screws have been successfully implanted in patients with degenerative pathologies, spinal trauma and tumours. When compared to state-of-the-art titanium systems, the radiolucent and non-metallic Carbon/PEEK material minimises artefacts in X-rays, CT and MRI and simplifies post-operative diagnosis. Concurrent radiation therapy during tumour treatment is no longer limited by metallic implants.

The VADER® system comprises rods and polyaxial pedicle screws made from Carbon/PEEK and utilises state-of-the-art surgical techniques. All screws are cannulated and titanium-coated in the pedicle area for direct osseointegration. Fenestrations at the screw tip allow for cement augmentation in patients with poor bone quality.
