29 February 2016: Salford orthopaedic series: Advanced instructional surgical spinal tumour cadaveric workshop

The Advanced Instructional workshop in the Management of Spinal Tumours will give delegates the opportunity to spend a day at the state-of-the-art University of Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre to develop their skills and experience in the operative management of spinal tumours. The cadaveric workshop will have minimal didactic lectures and maximum amount of time spent gaining practical experience, exploring procedures such as Thoracolumbar corpectomy and en-block spondylectomy.

 

In order to allow each delegate maximum practical experience there will be a high tutor to delegate ratio, with 3 delegates per cadaver/faculty member.

 

Learning Outcomes

On the day you will cover the following content:

  • Approaches to the axial cervical spine and craniocervical junction
  • Techniques in cervicothoracic access
  • Costotransversectomy and transpedicular corpectomy techniques
  • Total en block spondylectomy
  • Surgical techniques in tumour resection and reconstruction at the lumbopelvic junction
  • Surgical techniques in intradural tumours
